We welcome riders who can control a horse on a hack at walk, trot and canter.

You can ride with us all through the year - our rides stretch as far as you can see from our farm - the possibilities are endless!   We believe we can offer some of the best riding in the world in all seasons. Ours are quality, forward going horses,  and are fit, keen and kindly gentle - we focus on well behaved horses, good riding, and wonderful scenery.

OUR RIDES:-

We are situated in the sheltered Porlock Vale, nestled at the foot of North Hill, with the sea to the north west, and surrounded by glorious riding country all around. Our rides cover all the area that we can see from our fields, and can be of any duration of one hour to four hours. The terrain is quite challenging in places, and our horses are kept working fit to cope with this. We are sorry but we can only take competent riders due to the nature of the terrain, and also welcome experienced teenagers seeking a challenging hack. We are in the heart of the National Trust Holnicote Estate, originally a planted and developed as a hunting estate, but not leaving an amazing tapestry of trails and tracks for riding. This too is within the Exmoor National Park, renowned for some of the best riding country in the world.

NOTES FOR ALL RIDERS!

We prefer our riders to be able to walk trot and canter independently prior to riding with us.  We do not take novices, and we do not take young children.

Riding hats must fit properly - they should not flop around on your head, and should not pinch at the temples.  Protective Headgear to BS EN 1384:1997  EN 1384 and PAS 015:1998  If you ride with us and we are unable to provide a hat that fits comfortably riding is entirely at your own risk.  We may recommend that you do not ride and refunds will not be given.

Jodhpurs are useful or a pair of strong trousers without a seam on the inside of the leg is sufficient. A seam can pinch and cut into your skin as your leg is next to the saddle. Leggings are not suitable as they give you no protection to the inner thigh or inner calf and chafing will occur.

Riding / jodhpur boots - or a strong pair of boots that cover the ankle and with a small heel. The ankles can become rubbed and sore if in contact with the stirrup and leathers. The heel is necessary to prevent the foot slipping through the stirrup iron. Trainers are not suitable, they offer little protection and can easily become stuck in the stirrup.  No sandals.  Quality rubber boots are suitable as are walking boots.
A long sleeved shirt, a properly fastened jacket that is not flapping or a sweatshirt, are recommended.

We do have some riding hats, and some half chaps for the lower leg, but it is always better for your comfort and safety to bring your own equipment. Remember, horse riding can be dangerous at any level, and your head protection is of paramount importance. Body protectors are recommended at all levels of riding, but especially for teenagers.

We recommend personal riding insurance (or international travel insurance) to support your personal level of protection.   We have public liability insurance to £2m, however this does not cover the individual for personal accident or trauma unless our negligence can be proven.

We require all riders to complete a registration form before riding with us which points out that riding is a dangerous sport and accidents can happen at any level regardless of responsibility.
